"How To Cure Your Yeast Infection: Part 4"

Hi there! We're back for our fourth lesson on yeast infections, and in this article we'll face the often stressful and dreaded subject of going to the doctor. It's not as bad or as daunting as it may appear, but we'll get to that in a minute.

First, let's do a quick overview of what we learned last time when we looked at the symptoms of yeast infections. Discharge is absolutely normal in women. In fact, discharge will change over the course of your menstrual cycle: normally, you'll see very little, if any, discharge immediately following your period. On the other hand, you'll likely notice thick and sticky discharge at ovulation. This is all natural.

Not all discharge is natural, however. If you notice your discharge has a thick, white, cottage-cheesy texture then you likely have a yeast infection. Notice I said likely. You always want to go to the doctor to confirm a diagnosis. Other symptoms of a yeast infection include redness, itchiness and a bread-y or yeasty odor.

On that note, let's discuss what you can expect from your doctor's visit.

Diagnosis: Yeast Infection

You've got all the signs of a yeast infection. You just know it. But, you're one of those people who just hates going to the doctor, especially the gynecologist. (But, hey who among us doesn't?) You'd rather self-diagnose and start the treatment that you feel is best.

Rest assured. Getting checked by your doctor is the best opportunity for you to confirm your suspicions. You don't want to start yourself on treatments without knowing whether or not you're treating the right illness. Yeast infections, and other STDs, share some of the same symptoms so going to the doctor for confirmation is probably your best bet.

And, the trip to the doctor won't be all that bad. In fact, it's pretty simple and painless. The thought of going to the gynecologist, and the buildup before the visit, is usually worse than the actual visit itself.

Your doctor is going to take a swab from your vagina then send it off to the lab to be checked for yeast and for other vaginal infections which we discussed in our first lesson. It's as simple as that.

The most important thing to remember during your doctor's visit is to be open and upfront with your doctor. Share with him all of your symptoms and concerns. Think of it as a partnership: you and your doctor are working together to determine both your diagnosis and course of treatment.

Now, let's put it all up front and be honest. Not all medical diagnosis for yeast infections are correct. There's always room for error, especially if your doctor doesn't have all of the facts. That's why it's so important you know all of your symptoms and share them with your doctor. Talk freely with your doctor, ask plenty of questions if you have them, and take an active role. That's the key to getting the proper diagnosis and treatment..

Not so bad, is it? You'll learn even more about what to expect from your doctor's visit and course of treatment in my book: "I Cured My Yeast Infections... And You Can Too"

Advertisers love to tell you their products are the best for curing yeast infections. Don't believe all the hype. In the next article we'll explore the many options for treating your yeast infection, both medically and naturally.

As always, if you suspect you have a yeast infection now, make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible to confirm diagnosis and start treatment. Don't wait or you may compromise your health.
