"How To Cure Your Yeast Infection: Part 3"

Hi again and welcome to part three. By now, you're already well on your way to learning the ins-and-outs of yeast infections and what causes them. Before we move on and discuss the common symptoms of a yeast infection, let's do a quick recap. Some yeast infections are the result of natural acidity dips in our bodies during menstruation and pregnancy. Obviously, we have little, if any, control over these natural occurrences.

However, there are numerous causes of yeast infections we do have some control over including stress, the feminine hygiene products we use, toilet habits and even the clothes we choose to wear (the looser the better.) Knowledge is power, and knowing how to live a healthy lifestyle is the key to slamming the door on yeast infections for good.

Could it be a yeast infection?

No woman wants a yeast infection, but three out of four will experience one at some point in their lives. Therefore, it's important you be aware of the symptoms of yeast infections. (It is important to note, however, that some symptoms of yeast infections are also identical to those of certain STDs and other vaginal infections, so always consult with your doctor to confirm your suspicions.)

Let's kick off with the symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection. Now, you've probably noticed, at one time or another, vaginal discharge. Don't worry, and don't immediately assume you've got a yeast infection. In reality, every woman has vaginal discharge. It's perfectly normal and the texture of it generally changes during your menstrual cycle. Immediately after your period, you'll probably find your discharge is very little, if at all. On the other hand, during ovulation, you'll typically find your discharge is thick and sticky.

However, should you notice a change in your discharge, you may have a yeast infection. If your discharge is thick, white and reminiscent of cottage cheese, you most likely have a yeast infection. Any lumpy discharge is not normal and is often one of the first signs of a yeast infection.

These are all signs of a 'potential' yeast infection, so make an appointment to see your doctor as soon as possible.

Other signs include redness and itchiness of the vagina, and pain during sex. Be aware that you can pass a yeast infection to your partner during sex.

This is also a good time to tell you yeast infections aren't confined to the vagina. You can also get a yeast infection in your mouth (thrush), your intestinal tract and on your skin, all areas where yeast can multiply rapidly if acidity levels drop.

Symptoms of yeast infections of the mouth, skin or intestinal tract include: cravings for yeasty foods, depression, acne, excessive thirst or excessive weight gain or loss.

As you can see, these are also symptoms closely associated with other illnesses. I can't emphasize enough the extreme importance of consulting your doctor to confirm a diagnosis. Self-diagnosis can prove to be wrong, and you may start treating the wrong illness, which can be hazardous to your health.

In the next article you'll learn exactly what to expect when you go to the doctor to confirm your suspicions of a yeast infection. However, if you suspect you have a yeast infection now, make an appointment with your doctor to confirm diagnosis and start treatment as soon as you can. Waiting can be detrimental to your health. Don't forget to work with your doctor and discuss all of your symptoms and treatment options.
