"How To Cure Your Yeast Infection: Part 1"

Did you know that three out of every four women will develop a yeast infection at some point in their lifetimes? This nasty little infection is so common that you can walk into any drugstore or grocery store and find a whole section devoted to treatments. If you've got a yeast infection, take heart-you're in very good company!

I've suffered the embarrassment and misery of a vaginal yeast infection-many times over. I tried the over-the-counter treatments and prescription medicines, but they never really worked. I decided to do my own research, and I discovered some really amazing things in the process. And, best of all, I cured myself - safely and naturally, and without a prescription from my doctor!

Some vaginal infections are transmitted through sexual contact, but others such as yeast infections probably are not, depending on the cause.

Information is very powerful! This course will arm you with facts to help you better understand yeast infections and how you can control them. Let's start right now with a definition.

What Is a Yeast Infection?

There are various types of infections that can affect the vaginal region, and a yeast infection is only one of them. It's important to understand if your problem is in fact a yeast infection; you may have something else entirely, and different treatment options are required for different infections.

A yeast infection is one of the three vaginal infections doctors call "vaginitis."

  • Trichomoniasis: caused by a parasitic protozoa.

  • Bacterial vaginosis: caused by bacteria or symptomatic of sexually transmitted venereal warts or another sexually transmitted disease.

  • Yeast infection: caused by a fungus called "candida albicans."

Candida albicans, "candida" for short, normally lives in the healthy vagina - as well as the mouth and intestinal tract and skin - in very small amounts where it is typically kept in balance by the acidity of the environment. When the acidity of the environment changes, yeast begins to multiply and a yeast infection begins.

Many women experience chronic yeast infections. Yeast is very hardy and difficult to get under control. Anything from moisture to lifestyle to disease to prescription drugs can trigger a yeast infection.

Unfortunately for women, some of the most normal activities and events in our lives can bring on that smelly, itchy feeling. An acidic environment is what keeps the yeast in check. When something changes that healthy level of acidity, yeast can really have a field day, multiplying without a limit and causing an infection to occur.

Some of the causes of changes in acidity in your body you have little control over: menstruation, pregnancy, and diabetes can all lead to yeast infections. Steroids and birth control pills can be triggers; antibiotics also disrupt the natural environment of the vagina by killing off good and bad bacteria. Other triggers have to do with things you can easily change in your everyday life.

* Wetness or irritation around the genitals.

* Vaginal products (douches, sprays, etc.) that irritate the delicate vaginal area.

* Taking a bubble bath after a stressful day at work!

You can see the complete list of triggers and learn how even a bubble bath can give you a yeast infection in my book, "I Cured My Yeast Infections... And You Can Too"

In the next article we're going to discuss some of the many causes of yeast infections and how you can actually have control, in some instances, over whether or not you develop one. If you think you have a yeast infection right now, I encourage you to talk to your doctor and make sure that is the problem. Delaying a diagnosis can make any problem more difficult to treat.
